Funding
The only structural funding the NBB receives is a small amount from the KNAW which only covers a minor part of the costs. The work of the NBB would therefore not be possible without the financial support of foundations, patients organizations and private individuals, and the contributions from researchers who receive brain tissue.
Grants
The NBB currently receives grants from:
€ 530.000 in the period of 2019 - 2023 |
€ 100.000 in the period of 2017 - 2019 |

€ 75.000 per year for a period of 5 years |

€ 295.000 for a 4 year period. To be used for research of use of endogenous substances in influencing the course of MS, carried out by the Neuroimmunology research group of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience, using NBB tissue.

Private donations
The work of the NBB is much appreciated, sometimes expressed in donations or bequests to the Stichting Vrienden van het Herseninstituut (foundation for support of the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience).The foundation guarantees and promotes the continuity of the activities of the NBB and the activities that relate to brain research. Since January 2008, the foundation has been an “Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling” (Institution for General Benefit) by the Dutch Tax Authority. The assets of this Foundation are made up of donations, testamentary dispositions and legacies (Dutch Chamber of Commerce; registration no. 41205869).
