Neuropathology and cognitive performance in self-reported cognitively healthy centenarians
7 august 2018
Scientists from VUmc reported recently in Acta Neuropathologica Communications, extremely aged individuals over 100 years old, who self-report to be cognitively healthy, are recruited in the 100-Plus Study. While the centenarians in this cohort escaped or delayed cognitive impairment until extreme ages, their brains reveal varying levels of age- and disease-associated neuropathological hallmarks, some of which associate with cognitive performance.
